2018 Vissering Family Reunion Picture
We had our Annual Vissering Family Reunion on May 11th, 2024, at Harry James and Chassidy Vissering’s house. We had a wonderful time with family. We usually have our reunion on the last Saturday of April every year, but we are changing to the 2nd Saturday of April starting in 2025.
Our previous reunion was on April 22nd, 2023 at Harry James and Chassidy Vissering’s house. We had about 82 in attendance! As always, we had delicious food, lots of fellowship and we all had fun!
To see the pictures from all of our previous Vissering Family reunions, just click on the “Pictures” tab above. Our annual reunion is usually the last Saturday of April. Due to the COVID-19 issue, we did not have our annual reunions in 2020 and 2021. You can also click on the Vissering Genealogy tab above to read Pat Tomberlain’s article on our family and Vissering history.

Vissering is a well-established and very respected, family name, moving from Germany to St. Louis in 1888. The Vissering Family is well known in the East Texas (Naples) area.
Papa’s parents, Friederich and Reina Vissering brought their family to St. Louis, U.S.A. in 1888 after selling their home and small farm near Leer, Ost Friesland, in Northwestern Germany, adjacent to the eastern border of Holland. This was an area of once free (read more….)
Hello,
I read your family history with interest, because my family is also traced back to Leer, Ost-Friesland, Germany. My family left Leer around 1875 and went to Wedde, Groningen, Holland. I am told that we also had an ancestor, who owned a castle. From your story, i concluded that this may be Alfred Vischering. He had to flee to Leer, because of his religion. (Leer was a freestate in that time, Was not under the influence of the Catholic Church). The castle was claimed by the bishop of Munster
Hello Erik,
How interesting this all is!!! Yes, I have heard this too. Would love to talk more, I love heritage, and it seems we do have quite a lot! I see you found our Vissering Family Facebook page. Look forward to more info!
does anyone have a lineage that goes back to Jakobus Vissering born 1716?
Hi Cousins – I found your website and am hoping to share information. We just found a 1956 will probate of Fred Vissering and it sparked our genealogy interest again.

We have collected a lot of family history and have an original photo on the wall of Fred and Reina, they look about 50 years old, so say about 1900?. Also have a photo of Maurice and Tillie at the 1904 St Louis World’s fair – reportedly.
Where do we start? Do you still have the family reunions?
